The Peoria Symphony provides music education to schools throughout central Illinois. Four Youth Concerts are performed during the school day each year at the Peoria Civic Center Theater to over 8,000 students. A Young Artist Competition is also held each year for young musicians grade school through high school who live within a 50 mile radius of Peoria. The winner is awarded an academic scholarship as well as the opportunity to perform as soloist at the four Youth Concerts. PSO musicians have also formed a string trio, woodwind quartet and brass quintet that presents over 100 concerts each year in area third, fourth and fifth grade classes.
The PSO also offers free Pre-Concert Lectures prior to each classical subscription concert in Peoria Civic Center Room 220. These informative, entertaining talks are held from 7:15 pm - 7:45 pm and are hosted by a variety of guest speakers from musicians to guest soloists to the music director himself! Our subscription concerts are also rebroadcast on WCBU-FM 89.9, Peoria's National Public Radio station, for everyone to enjoy.
