September 12 - Michael Butterman
An advocate for "enlightened listening," Michael Butterman is a gifted musician who has been recognized for energizing orchestras and "making music matter to musicians and listeners alike." He gained international attention as a diploma laureate in the Profofiev International Conducting Competition; as a recipient of the Seiji Ozawa Fellowship, he studied at Tanglewood with Robert Spano, Jorma Panula and Maestro Ozawa.Previously the Associate Conductor of the Jacksonville Symphony in Florida for seven years, he is in his third season as Music Director of both the Boulder Philharmonic and Shreveport Symphony Orchestras. Recent guest conducting engagements include appearances with the symphonies of Detroit, Houston, Colorado, Oregon, Kansas City, Spokane and New Mexico. Michael Butterman's work has been featured in five nationwide broadcasts of NPR's Performance Today.
